Flat foot

When the arches on the inside of your feet are flattened, the complete soles of your feet touch the floor when you stand up this is called flat foot

Flatfeet is a common and typically painless ailment that occurs when the arches do not grow throughout development. In other circumstances, flatfeet develop as a result of an accident or the natural wear-and-tear strains of aging.

Because the disease can affect the position of your legs, flatfeet can occasionally contribute to ankle and knee issues. If you are not in discomfort, there is typically no need for therapy for flatfeet.


Symptoms

The majority of people have no indications or symptoms of flatfeet. However, some persons with flat feet suffer from foot discomfort, particularly in the heel or arch area. Pain may intensify as a result of activities. Swelling on the inside of the ankle is also possible.


Causes

Because the arch of the foot hasn't yet grown, newborns and toddlers have flat feet. Arches grow in the majority of people during childhood, although some people never develop arches. This is a common difference in foot type, and persons who do not have arches may or may not have issues.


Some children have a flexible flatfoot, which means that the arch is evident when the kid is seated or standing on tiptoes but vanishes when the child stands. Most youngsters grow out of flexible flatfoot without incident.


Arches may potentially collapse with time. Years of use can damage the tendon that runs down the inside of your ankle and supports your arch.


Risk factors

Flatfeet can be caused by several factors, including:


  • Obesity

  • Injuries to the foot or ankle

  • Diabetes

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • prolonged standing

  • classical Indian dance

  • idiopathic (unknown reason)

Strengthing

Hot/cold pack for the pain

Rest

Weight loss

Over the counter medications for pain

Surgical intervention
